Meet Linda Lazarus

Ms. Lazarus also understands the special importance of quickly and sensitively resolving workplace issues before such issues negatively impact the functioning of the whole organization. Moreover, after years of serving as defense counsel to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the District of Columbia, Ms. Lazarus understands the needs of organizations which are named as defendants in personal injury and other actions.
Experience in Mediation, Arbitration and TrainingLinda Lazarus has had substantial mediation experience. For over 20 years, she has mediated claims of racial discrimination, wrongful death and other matters for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She also mediates civil matters for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and serves on the Employment Mediation Panel of the American Arbitration Association. Over the years, Ms. Lazarus has mediated approximately 150 cases.
Ms. Lazarus also teaches mediation and other conflict resolution skills and is a frequent speaker at Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and other conferences. She has provided a substantial amount of ADR training in the United States and Internationally. Ms. Lazarus was one of a small group of American trainers who contributed to efforts to improve the Romanian legal system by teaching 240 Romanian lawyers how to be mediators. Throughout her career, Ms. Lazarus has had substantial experience in matters involving employment law and other workplace issues. She litigated employment matters while at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and at the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. When she worked for the Office of Hearings and Appeals of the Department of Energy (DOE), Ms. Lazarus adjudicated and investigated whistle blower matters. While at DOE, she served as the Lead Mediator of the DOE Mediation Service. In this capacity, Ms. Lazarus mediated sensitive and seemingly intractable workplace disputes (including claims of racial and sexual discrimination, retaliation and failure to provide reasonable accommodation) involving individuals throughout the agency. She has also mediated employment cases at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia as well as the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. In 2016, Ms. Lazarus trained, and was certified, as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The Circuit Mediation Office for the District of Columbia Circuit appointed her to arbitrate a civil case that had been referred by the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. (That case was dismissed before decision.) In conjunction with her mediation work, Ms. Lazarus currently owns and operates The Project for Workplace Stress Reduction, where she teaches stress reduction, mediation and leadership skills to individuals within organizations. |
